We first discovered Swiss apparel brand Maloja two years ago during a web search for fitted MTB shorts. After purchasing my first pair of Distel Double Shorts (click here for my previous blog post), I instantly became hooked on their fit and style. I have been looking for a light weight zip up shell for cooler temperatures that combines fit and fashion for quite some time now. When I came across the WilmaM jacket on sale, I didn’t think twice before clicking “buy.”
The Maloja WilmaM jacket has a flattering fitted look. It has the perfect amount of room for mobility (especially in the shoulders) making it easy to get into low, aggressive positions for attacking the trail. There streamlined fit doesn’t provide room for elbow pads, which is fine by me, since I use it as more of a trail riding riding piece. (plus it’s too nice to crash on! And I could always put on armor over the jacket)
I am currently wearing a size small, which is my typical size in all Maloja tops and bottoms. For a better reference, I am a US size 0-2 in tops, 26 in bottoms.
The Maloja WilmaM is made from a knitted polyester fabric that is treated with a wind and waterproof Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish. The jacket features articulated selves, with adjustable cuffs to lock out the elements, a hood and drop-tail hem, and a full front zipper. For storage, the jacket has two chest pockets, and two side zipped pockets. So far I’ve found it to do the job quite well.
I am ecstatic with this piece, and am constantly getting compliments from my fellow female riders (it looks good). I did overheat the first time I wore this on a night ride (it was 45 degrees out) and I started out with a mile climb. However, I was thrilled to have this towards the end when we were descending back down to the car – the wind and chill were kept at bay. I also made the mistake of carrying a lighter pack the first day I wore this; it’s a bit bulky to store and I had to strap it onto my pack as it would not fit in the main pocket. But other than that, it does what it is suppose to do, keep you warm and looking good on a chilly ride.
